Bird Man Mel to Appear on International Migrating Bird Day live stream Saturday, May 9, 2020

Saturday, May 9th at 10:00 AM CST, local owner of Songbird Station, a backyard nature shop in Columbia, MO will be broadcasting worldwide in a joint Facebook Live broadcast on World Migrating Bird Day with Environment Americas, Susan Bonfield. Each year on the 2nd Saturday in May, World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated.

According to Songbird Station owner, Mel Toellner, whose on-air name is Bird Man Mel, “We were honored when Susan reached out and suggested this join broadcast to their worldwide audience and the ever growing group of bird enthusiasts that have been joining our Saturday morning broadcasts at 10:00 AM on our Bird Man Mel Facebook page.”

Toellner continues, “This Saturday like every Saturday, we’ll cover how families can attract songbirds to their backyards on properties big or small, from a balcony to a rural retreat. This week we will put special emphasis on birds that migrate a significant distance, including Purple Martins, Orioles and Hummingbirds, and will cover the steps needed to get a backyard or other property certified as an Official Natural Wildlife Federation Certified Habitat.” Bird Man concludes, “This week like every week, our Saturday broadcast listeners will win over $500 in free prizes and personal questions will be answered during and after the event.”

We are also excited that next Tuesday evening we will be adding a new “Ask the Expert” event and our expert on Tuesday, May 12th will be Author, Stan Tekiela who will even “identify songbirds with and without a field guide.” Stan is one of America’s leading birding authors and has done bird guides for most states in America and more.
